Kruger National Park Rest Camps
Kruger National Park Rest Camps are situated within the National Park boundaries. Kruger has 12 main rest camps, 5 bushveld camps, 2 bush lodges and 4 satellite camps. All the major rest camps have electricity, a first-aid centre, a shop, braai and communal kitchen facilities, a laundromat/laundry tubs, a restaurant and/or self-service cafeteria, public telephones and a petrol station. Information centres manned by information staff are at Letaba, Skukuza and Berg-en-Dal. The Northernmost and remotest camp of all is Pafuri, and the Southernmost camp is Berg-en-Dal.
Rest Camps are surrounded by an electric fence, and the gates open at sunrise and close at sunset (depending on the season). Private and commercial vehicles must be within the camp boundaries at night. Official park vehicles and rangers conduct extra activities such as walks and night / morning / sunset drives before or after sunset.
The Rest Camps offer the iconic Kruger style "rondavels" - traditional thatch roof round houses with usually twin- or three-bed rooms and a private bathroom; air conditioning, fan and fly screens on the windows and doors. Campsites are available in most camps and some camps also offer stationary “Safari Tents” with real beds and shared bathrooms and communal kitchen.
